Meet of Champions Results and Male vs. Fern Creek
The Area 3 Meet of Champions was a soggy evening for the city of Louisville, but despite the unfavorable
conditions the boys squad dominated the relays sweeping the SMR, 4x200, 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Individual
champions on the boys side saw Kyle Jenkins take the crown in the discus while Stewart Brown finished in the
top spot in the 300IH. Jenkins came back as runner up in the shot put while throwing a nearly 2 foot PR of 52'.
Kieren Story ran a personal best mark in the 110HH finishing in second behind Diaz Boldon of Central. Story's
time of 15.34 ranks him #3 in the state over the tall barriers.
Friday night the boys will look to defend their 1-0 record in the second annual dual against Fern Creek. In
addition to the team title the big men of the throws look to avenge their loss in the "fat men 4x100 relay" which
will close the meet. Competition is set to begin at 5:00 with field and running events.

This will be a busy next few days for the Bulldogs as they enter into the championship part of the season.

need several parents to help with the concession stand. On Saturday May 16th Male will host the Region 3

4/30/09 (Important Update)
Updated Meet Schedule for Next Week
Next weeks schedule has changed slightly with the Area 3 Meet of Champions being moved from Tuesday to
Wednesday (5/6/09). Meet info can be found at www.kentuckyrunner.com on Sunday evening when the
accepted entries are posted. Male should be well represented in what was once the Jefferson County
Championships. Several athletes hit the automatic qualifying mark while others were very close with their
efforts this season. A full list of competing athletes will be posted as soon as the accepted list is published.
The meet will be the first of two meets taking place at Fern Creek High School next week. A bus will take the
athletes over for the 5:00 start time on Wednesday.
The second meet of the week will be the Male v. Fern Creek Dual meet which will have two of the cities top
sprint squads going head to head in a modified meet schedule resembling the NCAA format. Last year the
Male boys dominated the competition while the Fern Creek took home the title on the girls side. The second
annual competition will also give the Bulldog throwers the opportunity to redeem themselves for the crushing
defeat in the "Fat Mans Relay".

Derby Week
Yesterday's meet at Sacred Heart was cancelled due to weather (or I am guessing predicted weather) leaving
the boys and girls teams without a meet during Derby Week. The Jeffersonville Invitational for the boys will take
place next Thursday rather than the traditional night of the parade leaving participation up in the air. As it looks
the next opportunity for both Bulldog squads will be the 2nd Annual Male v. Fern Creek Dual. This years meet
will take place at Fern Creeks new facility with competition slated to begin at 4:30 for field and 5:00. Some
athletes will get the opportunity to compete in the Area 3 (Jefferson County) Championships also scheduled to
be held at Fern Creek.
The Coaching staff met with a representative of 852fx video production specialists which will shoot the Male vs.
Fern Creek Dual, Region 2 AAA Championships and State Championships. They will have highlight videos for
sale at the end of the year banquet for $20.00. For a sample clip see below of the boys 4x100 relay at the

number of athletes. Below are the entries for the boys and girls and competition is set to begin on Friday night

Quad Results
The first annual Quad meet with Fern Creek, Eastern, Male and Fern Creek eventually ended around 8:00 last
night with the boys squad taking both the Frosh-Soph and Varsity Divisions. The Varsity team was led by
strong performances in the hurdles by Stewart Brown and Kieren Story both of whom established personal best
marks in the high hurdles. The sprinters continued their dominance with a sweep of the 100M (Smith, Giddens,
Whitlock) and 1-2 finish in the 200M (Whitlock, Giddens). Both winners established personal best marks which
rank them in the top 5 in their events.
On the girls side the Lady Dawgs finished in 3rd place in the Varsity Division with 60 points behind Assumption
(66) and Fern Creek (65). The ladies were led by Nayia Bishop and Diamond Tedford both finishing in the top
two. The girls received some help in the field with Mariah Mays victory in the PV and Jordan Brittles 83'0" toss
in the discus.
Next Up for both teams will be the Bulldog Classic at The University of Louisville. Competition is scheduled to
begin at 1:00 for the high school division.

Not So Kick-Off Quad and Bulldog Classic
This week the Bulldogs will give the Kick-Off Quad a second go with the location again being changed back to
Male High School. Construction on the Fern Creek track has caused the meet (originally slated as the Eastern,
Male, Assumption Dual) to be held at Male. Field events are scheduled to start at 4:30 with running events at 5:
00. The order of events will be different from many meets in that it starts with the 4x100 and ends with the
4x400. Absent from the meet is the 4x800 and 4x200 relays. Attending the meet will be local powers Fern
Creek, Assumption, Eastern and Male. Eastern and Male finished 1-2 at this weekends Male Invitational girls
division with Eastern getting the better end of the Bulldogs by 21 points. The girls competition should be
extremely close as both Eastern and Male are able to field quality athletes in nearly every event.
The boys look to rebound after a less than stellar performance at the Male Invitational where they were beat by
regional rival St. Xavier and did not score a single point in the 400, 800, 1600, DMR or 4x800 Relay. With the
meet featuring FS (freshman/sophomore) and Varsity divisions many younger athletes get the chance to
compete in open events.
This weekend the Bulldog Classic will be held at UL Cardinal Park with several outstanding schools scheduled
to compete against some of the regions top track and field athletes. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00
following the college division. Entries will be posted on Wednesday for the Bulldog Classic and tentative entries
for the boys are listed below.

Challenge of Champions
Led by Chisom Omenyinma's first place finish in the 200M (22.40) the boys squad established a number of
personal and season best marks.in the open division of the Mobile Challenge of Champions. Despite some
questionable exchanges the 4x100 relay team of Reese, Omenyinma, Story and Giddens ran a season best
43.73 and ended up in 7th place. Kieren Story had a great day with his strong third leg in the 4x100 and a
personal best time of 15.88 in the high hurdles. The 300IH were not as eventful, as Story entered the 8th
hurdle in the lead he fell. Despite the fall he was able to get up and finish the race ending up in 8th overall
(42.61). Mike Patterson was just off his seasonal best marks in both the LJ (14th) and TJ (10th). In the boys
400M both Dexter Britt (52.32) and Nemo Reese (53.35) established career bests enroute to placing three
runners in the top 20. The 4x400 relay team of Reese, Omenyinma, Wise and Britt finished the meet in 7th in 3:
31.74. Less than impressive performances in the century did not stop Whitlock (22.94) and Giddens (23.32)
from putting up personal best marks in the 200M.

Boys Win Lenny Lyles Invitational
Scoring two people in seven of eighteen events the boys team rolled to victory over powers North Hardin and
St. Xavier. The boys team scored 122 points beating runner up St. Xavier by nearly 40 points. Leading the
way for the boys were Kyle Jenkins (SP/DT), Mike Patterson (LJ/TJ), Velvin Smith (100/200), Kieren Story
(hurdles) and Stewart Brown (hurdles) who each scored in two individual events. Once again the relays were
impressive with runaway wins in the 4x100 and 4x200 both of which established state leading marks. For the
third time this season however the North Hardin 4x400 relay team beat the Bulldogs in one of the most exciting
races of the day.
The girls squad finished in 4th place overall and saw the 4x400 relay team establish a state leading mark and
meet record run of 4:07.47. Leading the girls in individual events were Starsha Fant (800), Jordan Brittle
(throws) and Nayia Bishop (sprints). Bishop had an outstanding day scoring in both the 100M and 400M while
running legs on the 4x200 and 4x400 relay.
Next up for the girls team will be a Master Schedule Meet at Assumption HS on Tuesday. Both squads will
again be in action on Thursday at the Kick-Off Quad meet at Fern Creek HS. Thursdays meet will include

Girls Squad Impressive at Mason-Dixon Games
The lady bulldogs finished the 2009 indoor season in impressive fashion as they were runner up behind
defending state champion Ballard at the 2009 Mason-Dixon Games. Strong performances in the sprints and
relays propelled the team to their highest finish at the MDG in several years. Running out of the second heat in
both the 4x200 (Jones, Tedford, Bishop Griffin) and 4x400 (Fant, Tedford, Bishop, Griffin) the girls finished in
the top spot in both races beating sprint powers Ballard and Butler. Both the 4x200 and 4x400 relay
performances rank #1 all-time on the indoor list for the Lady Bulldogs. Starsha Fant led the girls running a
strong lead off leg in the 4x800 relay (prior to a restart), open 800 and 4x400 relay. Other top performers were
Ashley Jones (55M) who ran the second fastest indoor time in over 10 years, Maurisha Griffin (400M), and
Gillian Griggs (55H, LJ).
Despite being missing several key athletes the boys team finished in the third spot behind traditional powers St.
Xavier and North Hardin. The boys team were led by strong performances in the field events behind Kyle
Jenkins 3rd place finish in the shot, Tony Branch's 4th place finish in the high jump and Mike Pattersons 2nd
place finish in the long jump and 6th place finish in the triple jump. The 4x200 relay (Giddens, Graham, Story,
Omenyinma) ran the #2 all-time indoor time enroute to an easy victory. While Donnell Whitlock (55M) and

Everyone Reads at the Wildcat Classic
The boys and girls squads produced several outstanding early season marks at yesterday's at the University of
Kentucky's Nutter Fieldhouse. The competition produced several meet records, though none from Male High
School athletes. The boys 60M showcased the Bulldogs speed with Male High School athletes occupying 4 of
the top 10 spots. An error in with the timing system during heat 1 may have taken a potential record away from
Justin Green and a top 5 finish away from Robbie Graham as all times from the first heat were estimated hand
times rounded up .24 seconds. The boys 400M ended with two athletes in the top 8 as Kieren Story and Tony
Booker both broke the 53 second barrier. Several athletes exceeded expectations as Dexter Britt ran sub- 54
in the both the open 400M and 4x400, while sophomore John Giddens ran solid times in the 60M and 200M in
his first indoor track meet.
Coach Beaumont's Everyone Reads Program received a major boost as she was amazingly able to capture the
"non scripted" readings of UK football coach Rich Brooks and Joker Phillips. The girls squad also had
outstanding performances in the sprints. With a number of athletes placing high in the 60M and 400M. In one
of the most exciting race of the day for the lady dawgs finished 3rd in the 4x400M with a strong early season
mark of 4:20.78
Next up for both teams will be the Cedarville Invitational at Cedarville University just north of Cincinnati. Entries
will be posted in early February.
